Inventor of the footbed
The Birkenstock family were the ones responsible for the invention of the footbed. The footbed is created, based on the impression of a healthy foot in the sand. It forms the basis for all of the brand’s footwear. The revolutionary design, available in normal and narrow widths, ensures excellent wearing comfort and extraordinary quality.
The company’s roots can be traced back to 1774. The sandals used to be a fashion flop, but physicians loved them. Years later, the sandals stepped into the fashion world due to collaborations with Marc Jacobs, Celine, Givenchy, Valentino and Manolo Blahnik.
